Work drivers wanted for innovative research project

Griffith University has been successful in obtaining a Road Safety Innovation Fund Grant to investigate driver safety and fatigue. The project involves utilising Hexoskin technology in combination with IVMS technology to determine if we can identify fatigue and investigate the health and well-being of employees and drivers.

Never heard of Hexoskin and the relationship with safe driving?

This is what is often used by elite athletes to monitor their performance, health, sleep and activity. Now the team at Griffith University are using the Hexoskin to better understand people who drive for work.

Consider as an employer you will come to understand how the pressures of the road system – picture other road users cutting off trucks and buses – and how that may impact safe driving. Another angle could be fatigue, pressure or delays in getting to a destination.

The other is what happens on site and how this blows back into safe driving.

There are so many factors which can impact on driving which is why we focus on a systems-based approach, as we all have a role. The beauty of this project, we can peep inside the drivers and see how all of these other factors correlate with safe driving.

Participants

Griffith are looking to recruit up to 250 workers that drive vehicles fitted with IVMS as part of their work and are prepared to wear a Hexoskin for between 3-5 days of working. We wish to involve numerous organisations representing various Government and Non-Government sectors with each organisation providing between 10-20 participating drivers. Alternatively, larger organisations can provide 10-12 drivers from different departments and provide a larger sample for comparisons.

The data collection phase of the project is commencing and we are interested in discussing the logistics of data collection with potential participating organisations.

What are participants required to do?

Participants will be required to be driving a vehicle fitted with IVMS

Participants will be required to wear a Hexoskin for between 3-5 days

Participants will be required to undertake a short survey

Benefits to participating organisations

This project has been fully funded by the Road Safety Innovation Fund and therefore there is no direct cost to participating organisations or drivers
