The Monash University Accident Research Centre has completed an evaluation of the NRSPP. The evaluation was supported by the NRSPP steering committee and its secretariat, and the final report was peer reviewed by an international expert in program evaluation and workplace road safety. The goal of the evaluation was to assess the impact of the program’s outputs and activities over the past 9 years. GTuided by the Institute of Work and Health Research Impact model (Van Eerd et al., 2021), the evaluation aimed to describe:

  1. Outputs of NRSPP activities including knowledge production, knowledge advancement and knowledge dissemination;
  2. Influence of NRSPP activities on key decision-makers in workplace road safety (e.g., employers, policy makers); and
  3. Impact of NRSPP activities on improving individual and workplace health and safety outcomes.

A range of data was collected using the  academic and grey literature, a survey of program stakeholders, an extensive website review, and social media analytics tools.

Key findings from the report include:

  • The program has achieved substantial growth in the number of program partners and working group memberss (Figure 1), social media followers, and website users.
  • There has been an increase in the creation of new knowledge (e.g., through outputs such as Fact Sheets, Tool Box Talks, Case Studies, and Q&A’sx) and dissemination of information through sharing of high-quality resources through the Knoweldge Centre, social media, and stakeholder communciations. through social media xxx.
  • The NRSPP has been cited in several government and key industry body reports as well as in the academic and research activitiessettings.
  • Survey results reveal that stakeholders primarily utilise the NRSPP for education and awareness-raising, self-learning, and training purposes.
  • Survey data shows that the NRSPP has positively impacted workplace health and safety outcomes for key stakeholders, including improving employee safety knowledge, workplace safety culture, and facilitating the integration of new safety good practice into day-to-day operations

The evaluation provides compelling evidence to support the impact of the NRSPP in workplace road safety. The results also provide clear direction on future areas of improvement for the program and which will be used to inform the program’s strategic direction moving forward. It is clear that the NRSPP is achieving its goal of assisting all businesses and organisations in striving to eliminate serious injury and death from work-related crashes.
