Each year, Aurizon transports more than 250 million tonnes of Australian commodities – connecting miners, primary producers, and industry with international and domestic markets. Aurizon provides its customers with freight and logistics solutions across an extensive national rail and road network, traversing Australia.

  • Aurizon’s fleet includes approximately 840 light vehicles (including crew and passenger vehicle) and 180 Aurizon owned Heavy Vehicles.
  • The heavy vehicles are operated by qualified drivers nationally, including a mix of local and long haul. Aurizon is accredited to NHVAS and operates under standard hours accordingly.
  • Light vehicles are used by employees to: drive within terminals (such as checking trains prior to departure, shunting activities); on public roads to drop off and pick up rail crew; attend to trains for specific needs such as maintenance; and managers attending terminals and depots across the country.
  • Aurizon undertakes approximately 530,000 kms of mixed road travelled in 1 week.

Why Become And NRSPP Program Partner?

  • The NRSPP is strongly aligned with Aurizon’s ZEROHarm philosophy and its Road Safety Community of Competence Charter.
  • Aurizon is committed to being part of and contributing to this network as we all benefit from Safe Vehicles, Safe Roads and Safe Drivers. Organisations working together can only improve the way businesses and communities approach this problem,
  • Partnering with NRSPP will enable Aurizon to implement evidence based initiatives and strategies to continue to improve and reduce risks of work-related driving.

What Does Road Safety Mean To Aurizon?

  • Our service model incorporates driving heavy vehicles to deliver products to customers, whilst also utilising light vehicles to perform the many support activities required to support rail services.
  • Driving vehicles is considered to be Aurizon’s highest risk, due to the frequency, duration and environment in which vehicles are operated. Aurizon’s Road Safety Community of Competency (C0C) is made up of a membership base of employees from a cross section of levels and business groups within Aurizon. The primary goal of the Road Safety CoC is to use evidence and systems based approaches to eliminate death and serious injury resulting from work-related vehicle incidents and to enhance road safety for our people and our communities.
  • Aurizon installed an In Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) across its Aurizon fleet in 2017. IVMS has resulted in significant improvements to driver behaviour.
