by SIA, 2017, SIA joins National Road Safety Partnership Program, media release, 21 August, SIA, Melbourne

The National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) today announced the Safety Institute of Australia as a new partner. The SIA will immediately join its Steering Committee.

Jerome Carslake, manager of the National Road Safety Partnership Program welcomed the Safety Institute Australia as its latest partner. “The NRSPP is evolving and building a centre of excellence for workplace road safety. Our partners work together to build initiatives which will have a meaningful impact on work related road injury and fatality. By partnering with SIA, NRSPP is able to collaborate with safety professionals across Australia in regard to health and safety in the construction and maintenance of Australia’s roads, as well as their daily use by Australian workers” he said.

SIA Chief Executive Mr David Clarke said “two thirds of all work place fatalities involve a vehicle and a third of these are on public and the other third private roads. Workplace related deaths and serious injuries are unfortunately on the rise in Australia. This is a worrying trend, and we all have a part to play in addressing it.”

“Being part of the NRSPP means that we will be working together to cross-promote workplace road safety programs and provide leadership.”

Mr Carslake underlined the importance of collaboration in the partnership. “Partners of NRSPP believe there is no competitive advantage from road safety just a shared advantage in working together, sharing knowledge and ideas. The approach one organisation has, shared with others, keeps us working toward best practice” he said.

Mr Clarke said “We’ll be working closely with the other NRSPP partners, making the business case for healthy, safe and productive workplaces in the construction and maintenance of Australia’s roads, as well as their daily use by hundreds of thousands of Australian workers” he said.

The program is also seeking engagement from large Australian companies with high level exposure to workplace road health and safety.
