The safety of aviation is very prominent in minds of the traveling public. We have come a long way with our level of safety and are still improving. Safety Management Systems, safety culture and understanding human factors are the key areas where we see the next level of improvements. It is critically important to understand the role of the human in the highly automated environment of aviation and how the human interacts not only with the aircraft but the software in the aircraft, the other humans in the system and the environment that they are all operating in.
