The transport industry has a high rate of injuries and fatalities resulting from workers falling off trucks and trailers. The risk of falls are commonly associated with:

  • vehicle design
  • equipment used
  • work practices
  • behaviour
  • other organisational and industry factors.

These risks should be identified and controlled by businesses operating in the road transport industry and their supply chains.

Campaign focus

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) ran a campaign to reduce fall related incidents in the transport industry and its supply chains. The main objective of the campaign was to work with industry to explore the key risks and develop practical tools and case studies to help manage these risks. Across Queensland,
30 workshops were held to discuss and promote ways for preventing falls from trucks and 145 workplace assessments were undertaken by WHSQ Inspectors.
