    Briefly describe your organisation

    We are an Insurance company that is owned by the Catholic Church known as Catholic Church Insurance (CCI).

    Operating under mutual principles, we put Church interests before company profits. We have a long, proud history of serving the Catholic community and have done so since 1911. In fact, we’re one of the oldest insurance companies in Australia.

    CCI exists to support the mission of the Catholic Church. From the beginning, our founding principles have remained constant – to develop specialist products and services that meet the needs of the Church, to control insurance costs and to retain any surplus within the Church.
    We manage a balance between the prudential demands of running an insurance company and being part of the Church community. Each decision is measured against our values of fairness, honesty and commitment to serve.

    CCI operates under not-for-profit principles. When an operating surplus is achieved, a significant proportion is returned to our Catholic clients by way of dividends, distributions and grants. CCI’s client distributions are unique in the insurance industry and underpin the principles under which the company operates.

    Our Corporate Sustainability

    CCI is committed to environmental leadership with business practises that support sustainability, reduce waste, and lower carbon emissions. We have a dedicated Sustainability Committee who ensures people in our organisation work in ways that reduce our carbon footprint.
    Raising awareness of our environmental responsibility is part of our broader corporate sustainability framework. It allows us to identify clear opportunities for becoming more energy efficient while lowering operational costs. The effort is backed by the objective to serve our clients with greater efficiency; strengthening their role in supporting Catholic communities across Australia.

    CCI also pilots innovation programs to explore new ways of roll out successful and sustainable, change management initiatives.

    Approximately 20 people nationally

    Describe what road safety means to your organisation?

    From an insurance perspective, educating our clients to ensure they take the right measures to protect their staff on the roads. This also tries to achieve fewer claims are registered against a client.

    What action(s) could your organisation do to support road safety through the NRSPP & by when?

    For example: Development of an evidence based Thought Leadership piece on driver distraction               Mar 2015

    1. Provide access to our resources on Driver Safety including how to manage a fleet, this will be available publically on our site.                Aug 2019
