What does road safety mean to CCSA?
RV owners are travelling further and more remotely, making it even more important that they are equipped with the most relevant and important information to ensure they are travelling safely and compliantly. CCSA has developed a Weigh Day educational program which supports SA Road Safety Strategy, and in particular:
- the target to reduce to zero lives lost by 2050 on South Australian Roads
- at least 50% reduction in lives lost on South Australian roads by 2031
- and 30% reduction of serious injuries per capita on South Australian roads by 2031
- Greater public awareness, information and education about RV safety requires urgent attention,
however dedicated training and upskilling is disjointed and is lacking state-wide.
● Rolling out the state-wide Think RV Road Safety education program needs to occur as soon as possible
to reduce lives lost and injuries on South Australian roads.
What action(s) does CCSA do to support road safety through the NRSPP and by when?
- To communicate regularly with new and existing RV drivers via social media and forum mediums to increase RV driver education, safety, driver confidence, and vehicle
compliance. - To link RV drivers to videos and toolbox resources that educate drivers to think about their behaviours and actions while driving on SA roads which is frequently regional roads with high-speed limits i.e. driving country roads, good days or bad days, fatigue, build your confidence, are you road worthy
- To achieve behavioural change of drivers to share the road with caravans and heavy
transport and to be aware of how to interact with each vehicle - To increase member and trade dealer education of vehicle set up and loading and towing
