New Grey Fleet Safety Management Tool Launched to Support Australian Workplaces
A new free resource has been launched to help Australian organisations better manage the growing challenge of grey fleet safety.
Grey fleet refers to the use of employees’ personal vehicles for business purposes. Unlike traditional company-owned or leased cars, grey fleet vehicles are not directly overseen by organisations, yet businesses still carry responsibility for ensuring they are safe and compliant with legal standards. To address this, the National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) has released the Grey Fleet Safety Management Model (GFSMM) – an interactive online tool designed to help organisations assess and improve how they manage grey fleet risks.
“Managing grey fleet can feel overwhelming for many organisations,” said the NRSPP Independent Chair, Emeritus Professor Jude Charlton. “The GFSMM provides a clear framework that not only helps organisations assess where they stand today but also supports them on a journey to safer, more responsible grey fleet management.”
The GFSMM builds on NRSPP’s 2017 Grey Fleet Safety Management Guide, developed in collaboration with industry experts and tested with partners across the finance, health care, not-for-profit and retail sectors.
The GFSMM online tool measures an organisation’s maturity across 13 key areas of grey fleet safety management and offers a digital report including recommendations and insights to assist organisation develop their own unique action plan. Organisations are encouraged to revisit the tool annually to track improvements over time, with all results securely stored for future reference.
As part of the GFSMM, the NRSPP has created a number of supporting resources such as toolbox talks, policy templates, and safety guides.
