National Heavy Vehicle Regulator
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is Australia’s first national, independent Regulator for all vehicles over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass.
It will currently manage National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme accreditations and Performance-Based Standards Scheme design and vehicle approvals nationally.
Later in 2013, NHVR will administer one set of laws for heavy vehicles under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), delivering a comprehensive range of services under a consistent regulatory framework.
One regulator under one rule book will:
- reduce duplication and inconsistencies across state and territory borders.
- cut costs, red tape and confusion
- deliver even safer and more efficient operations
- boost innovation
- help unlock estimated productivity gains of up to $12.4 billion over the next 20 years.
