One moment it’s business as usual. You’re a professional driver, heading to your destination, like you have hundreds of times before. Then in a blink of an eye, you’re involved in the worst vehicle crash in Australia’s history. And multiple lives are changed forever, particularly yours. 35 years on, Graeme Thompson is still dealing with the physical and psychological impact of that crash, when two coaches collided on the Pacific Highway in northern New South Wales. While road safety and the road system has changed dramatically since that December morning in 1989, lives lost and serious injuries are still common on our roads, including for professional heavy and light vehicle drivers. In this unique NRSPP webinar, Graeme will share his personal story to highlight the enduring reality of being involved in a serious road crash, whether the crash would have happened in today’s ‘vehicle as a workplace’ culture, and what employers, industry and drivers can do to make sure others don’t suffer the same fate. Graeme will be joined by Bernadette Nugent, from Amber Community, an organisation who provides counselling and support to those impacted by road trauma.
