ARSC2025 Workplace Road Safety Best Paper Award winner

We’re delighted to acknowledge the winner of the Best Paper Award on Workplace Road Safety presented at ARSC2025 in Perth last week. This year’s award, sponsored by the National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) in collaboration with the Australasian Fleet Management Association (AfMA), was awarded to author, Phuong Nguyen, from the AIP Foundation, Hanoi, Vietnam, for the paper Driving change: safer transport solutions for Cambodian factory workers, presented by Piseth Im.

The paper showcased a multi-methods project that achieved a demonstrable reduction in serious injuries among factory workers commuting daily in Cambodia’s clothing and footwear industries—employing more than 870,000 workers. The project adopted a systems-based approach, combining legislative reform, safer vehicle choices, improved safety culture, and driver awareness and training to create sustainable change.

A core principle of the NRSPP is recognising that an workplace road safety is a safe long-term investment that pays its way when built on the right evidence based foundations.

Special thanks to Jerome Carslake, Sjaan Koppel, and Kevin Hore (Queensland Energy) for joining me on the judging panel. Stay tuned for an upcoming webinar in 2026 where we’ll showcase this outstanding work in more detail.

The NRSPP first initiated the Best Paper for Implications for Road Safety in 2017 and has proudly sponsored the award every year since.
